The Duke of Cambridge Visits Milton Keynes Rose at Campbell Park

We were proud to welcome The Duke of Cambridge to the Milton Keynes Rose in Campbell Park, as part of a special visit to celebrate the city’s 50th birthday.

Richard Forman, Chairman, and Rob Riekie, Landscape and Operations Director, of The Parks Trust showed His Royal Highness around part of Campbell Park and explained how the Trust manages over 6,000 acres of parks and landscape as a self-financing charity. They walked out to the Belvedere and Light Pyramid sculpture to see the view over the eastern half of Milton Keynes, which shows just how green the city is. The Duke was also introduced to David Foster, Chief Executive of The Parks Trust; Gordon Dundas, Landscape Officer; and Jools Kendall, Community Ranger.

David commented: “We were delighted that The Duke visited Campbell Park, and that he was so interested in the Trust’s model for looking after green space.  Campbell Park is one of our finest parks and a fantastic one to show him – he was particularly impressed with the beautiful autumn colours on display and loved hearing about how, right in the heart of the city, we use sheep to cut the grass!”

The Duke also spent time meeting other key organisations and representatives from the city, and watched a variety of performances at the Milton Keynes Rose before unveiling a special plaque to commemorate the founders of Milton Keynes.

In his speech, His Royal Highness praised the city’s creators for ensuring that no one is more than a few minutes’ walk from green space in Milton Keynes, and for the city’s strong sense of community and belonging, and focus on greenery and sustainability.

David continued: “Milton Keynes is an exceptional city with lots to offer those who live here, or visit for work or fun. The visit from The Duke was a fantastic way to celebrate Milton Keynes’ 50th birthday and we welcomed the opportunity to talk to him about our dynamic, inspiring city.”
