Circular Walk In Great LinfordTime: 2 hours Parking: Stonepit Fields Car Park Cross road at car park turn right, walk to and over canal, turn left onto tarmac lane, follow land for approximately 400 meters. Take right hand concrete road over cattle grid away from canal. This is private land so walkers must stay on the road. Follow road, on your right are the lakes. After approximately 800 meters will be the ruins of Saint Peters Church Stanton Low circa 1100, visitors may walk around this site. Continue following the road, the river Ouse is on your left and on the right is the Hanson Environmental Study Centre Wildfowl reserve. Look out for Egrets, Herons and Cormorants on the small island plus wildfowl on the lakes. You will arrive at a bridge crossing the Ouse, look out for kingfishers and also crayfish in the river. This is a good time to stop and have the coffee you fortuitously brought with you! Cross over the bridge walking past the Mill circa 1850, walk through another gate turning immediately right following the public footpath signs. Follow fence up the hill, you will have good views of the surrounding area and the fishing lakes which used to be gravel pits, you will come across a stile, use this, then cross the field to the next stile, turn slightly left taking path towards lakes and woods. The path had been set out between horse fields, cross over stile into woods. This part of the walk can get quite muddy. Follow the signs. Arriving at a car park walk through to the road. This is Little Linford Lane, there is no footpath here, beware of traffic, turn right and continue approximately 500 meters along the road walk over two bridges, 50 meters after second bridge turn right at a public footpath sign. Follow the trail. After walking through the woods you will arrive at the main Wolverton, Newport Pagnell road. Cross the road turning right following the path up past the Black Horse Public House, cross over the canal turn left onto towpath, after 20 meters turn right into Stonepit Fields, follow the grass pathway back to the car park which now will be on your right. |
