Enforced Closure of Motocross TrackFollowing several months of negotiation and attempts by The Parks Trust to keep the popular Pineham Motocross Track open, Milton Keynes Council has taken the decision to serve notice on the Trust to prevent the Track from being used. The Trust, an independent charity that takes care of Milton Keynes’ parks and open spaces, has no other option than to comply with the Council’s decision and has had to withdraw the licence from the operator of the track, MKMX. Although the track has been in use for 25 years it has never had formal planning permission. The Trust sought to obtain a Certificate of Lawful Use from Milton Keynes Council, but this was turned down. The Council has encouraged The Parks Trust to submit a planning application for the site and the Trust is now looking for a well established motorcycling organisation that would be willing to back it. David Foster, Chief Executive of The Parks Trust, said: “This track has provided a great facility for many people across the whole of the city and we’re incredibly disappointed about the decision Milton Keynes Council has taken. To put a planning application in would be costly and we have already spent a great deal trying to secure a Certificate of Lawful use. We believe that having a motocross club on the site is the best way to control and regulate use and we’re hopeful that planning permission can be secured and the track will be re-opened in the future.” |
