Model boats
The Two Islands Radio Yacht Club was formed in late 1992 by a group of five or six skippers who were mainly interested in sailing and racing the radio controlled 6 metre class. This class has now been superseded by the International One Metre class – IOM. This is the most popular class in the UK. The club then developed racing for the Laser class and currently some eight members sail this class regularly with the programme now split with IOM's to include handicap racing as well as scratch.
During the club's history we have hosted a number of important events including national championships and regional heats and continue to do so. We have a strong programme of competitive events on Sundays but we also sail on Wednesday afternoons with a more casual approach to our sport! We also have some fun day events on selected Sundays in the summer.
The club is affiliated to the Model Yachting Association, the national body that develops and controls the sport in the UK. We have excellent sailing water at Furzton Lake with a variety of race courses available for our use.
If you are interested in the sport of model yacht racing please come along to the lake on a Sunday, make yourself known, and we will be pleased to help in any way possible. Alternatively, email the club secretary at secretary@mk2islandsryc.org.uk.
Petanque
Bancroft Petanque Piste, which can be found near the Roman villa site at the top of the Loughton Valley, is provided by the Parks Trust, free of charge, for anyone who fancies trying this popular game.
Also known as Boule, Petanque is a traditional game played with steel balls on any sandy or gravelly surface across a large part of Europe. One of the sport's big attractions is that players can compete on equal terms, whatever their age or physical ability.
Bancroft Park Pentanque Club plays on the piste three times a week, and welcomes anyone who would like to try the sport. For more information about the club contact the club secretary Eric Brown on 01908 319663 or by email at cada1@btinternet.com.
