Volunteers Week 2021

The Parks Trust is proud to have to the support of 203 volunteers and this Volunteers Week we’d like to say thank you to every single volunteer for all their hard work, helping to keep our parks great places for people and wildlife.

Our volunteers support our charitable works through a variety of roles. Some volunteers support our biodiversity work by attending regular conservation tasks, working practically on varying projects from pond clearances to hedge laying. Our wildlife surveyors help us collect information about habitats and the wildlife that call the parks home.

Our volunteer rangers and wardens patrol our parks on a regular basis, helping to keep the parks tidy by litter picking and reporting issues to our Community Ranger Team. Some volunteers help out at our events, greeting guests and keeping venues tidy. If you join one of our regular Parks & Run or Women’s Walking Network activities, you’ll be looked after by one of our recreation volunteers leading the run or walk.

At Howe Park Wood, you’ll be welcomed by one of our Howe Park Wood Ambassadors during the school holidays or an Outdoor Learning Volunteer if you join a Tree Tots session. We also have volunteers who support our school sessions and Hedgehog programme as Hedgehog Ambassadors. Alongside our volunteer team we work with several volunteer parks ‘Friends Of’ groups who do lots of great work in their focused park.

We recently welcomed some new volunteers when the call went out for new Floodplain Forest and River Wardens, Volunteer Rangers and volunteer support for our Outdoor Learning Team. For anyone interested in volunteering with us please keep a look out for future opportunities, we advertise and recruit for particular volunteer roles when vacancies arise on our website and social media channels.

Coming up this year, we’ll have some community volunteering action days where we’ll be inviting communities and individuals to join us at a few different volunteering activities like planting bulbs, building a stone wall, supporting a nectar garden and litter picking at our series of community litter picks where anyone can join and help clear up a local park. We also have 2 sets of litter pickers to lend out to groups for free so they can host their own voluntary litter picks and help us keep MK parks great places to be.
