Volunteer Drystone Wall training

09:00 - 12:00
Booking required

Join us for a unique opportunity to learn the traditional skills of dystone walling at Great Linford Manor Park! Under the instruction of an award-winning drystone waller you will learn how to dress and lay stone and how to construct a wall.

This training is made possible through our National Lottery Heritage Fund project at Great Linford Manor Park. Drystone wall building takes a long time (short walls can take many years when built on-and-off) and so we will be running public wall-building sessions in the months and years to come. This programme not only helps us to build the wall sooner, but provides opportunity for MK citizens to learn new skills.

We therefore welcome volunteers who:

  • Are willing to share their skills by tutoring members of the public at open days in the future;
  • And are willing to work on the wall over an extended period of time.

Drystone walling is a physically demanding task, so volunteers must be 18+ years old, fit and well. If you have any questions, do get in touch by emailing e.broad@theparkstrust.com.

You can choose to attend one of two training sessions:

  • Wednesday 4th August, 9am-12pm.
  • Thursday 5th August, 1-4pm.

Both training sessions take place at Great Linford Manor where we are extending an historic drystone wall. The walls runs between St. Andrew's Church and the canal. We will be extending the wall by around 20 metres.
