Without a Trace
Students get to try their hand at a range of different survival activities such as fire lighting, shelter building and making natural water filters. Each activity has a focus on how to survive in the natural environment without leaving a footprint. Students will learn about our ancient and protected woodlands, why the Parks Trust cut down some trees but not others and what impact climate change is having on the water bodies in Milton Keynes.
How does this session link to the National Curriculum?
Science Key Stage 3 - Earth as a source of limited resources and the efficacy of recycling. The production of carbon dioxide by human activity and the impact on climate.
Science Key Stage 4 - Potential effects of, and mitigation of, increased levels of carbon dioxide and methane on the Earth’s climate. The Earth’s water resources and obtaining potable water.
Geography Key Stage 3 - Human Geography and the use of natural resources; understand how human and physical processes interact to influence, and change landscapes, environments and the climate; and how human activity relies on effective functioning of natural systems.
Geography Key Stage 4 - Resources and their management – An overview of how humans use, modify and change ecosystems and environments in order to obtain food, energy and water resources.
