Meet The Staff
Grace Burger, Biodiversity Officer
For those of you I haven’t met yet, I joined the Parks Trust in August 2018 as the new biodiversity officer. Prior to working for the Trust, I completed a Masters degree at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London studying botany – although my interests stretch far beyond plants and I’m happy to get stuck into any species survey. Over the last 5 years I have been involved in research studying pollinator resource competition on Dorset heaths, the impacts of grazing on woodland biodiversity on Brownsea Island, the effect of heavy metal contamination from historic mining activity on montane plant communities in Picos de Europa national park, Spain and most recently, the effects of altitude on plant communities and functional traits in the Lake District.
Outside of work I enjoy weekend camping trips, long walks and climbing with friends.
In my new role I will be assisting Martin and Carla, carrying out ecological surveys, managing volunteer wildlife surveys and leading the Wednesday and Saturday practical tasks with volunteers. My first wildlife blog on hedgehogs can be found here.
I look forward to working with you all soon!
Zara Watson, Events and Marketing Officer
As the newest member of the Events and Marketing team, I joined The Parks Trust in May 2018. Prior to working for the Trust, I completed a year backpacking around Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Before that I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in Events Management and then worked in education and charity organisations on their events and marketing.
Outside of work I enjoy reading, weekend city breaks and spending time with family and friends.
As the Events and Marketing Officer, I will be working alongside Julie and Zoe, aiding the planning and delivery of the Trust’s events programme as well as working closely with the Marketing team promoting our events and activities programme. I also look after building our Instagram following and creating a fun and relevant presence online!
I look forward to meeting many more of you throughout 2019!
