We're an independent charity that cares for many of Milton Keynes parks and green spaces. This adds up to 6,000 acres of river valleys, woodlands, lakesides, parks and landscaped areas alongside the main roads.
We’re looking for dedicated volunteers to help promote hedgehog conservation on behalf of the Parks Trust across Milton Keynes. With support from our Outdoor Learning team and our Biodiversity officers, the hedgehog ambassadors will lead talks for schools and community groups about hedgehog ecology and conservation and lead sessions on hedgehog monitoring techniques.
The Hedgehog Ambassadors must be flexible and able to lead weekday sessions either during the school day or in the evening with community groups. We ask that the Hedgehog Ambassadors are able to commit to a minimum of one session a month, however, the frequency of sessions will vary throughout the year, in line with the active period of hedgehogs in the wild, typically February until October. Therefore you can expect to lead more sessions during this active period.
Skills and Experience Required:
Friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic personality.
A passion for and interest in hedgehog conservation!
Please note - knowledge of hedgehog ecology and conservation is NOT required, we will provide training and materials for any sessions delivered.
Full training will be given including:
Introduction to The Parks Trust as an organisation.
Health and safety.
Hedgehog ecology and conservation.
Hedgehog survey techniques.
Leading school and community group sessions.
Training will take place in August 2019, ready to start community engagement work in September 2019.
