Eastern Expansion Area

The Eastern Expansion Area of Milton Keynes is at an advanced stage of development, having started in about 2007. It includes the now-completed development of Broughton Gate and the on-going residential development of Brooklands that lies next to the M1 motorway. The Expansion Area also includes the on-going industrial/commercial development of Magna Park, which lies between the Brooklands residential area and the A421 road.

In 2012, the Parks Trust took ownership of the first phase of new parks in the Eastern Expansion Area at Broughton Gate, including an extension to the Broughton Brook Linear Park. Other new parks and green spaces in the development include the Brooklands Meadow Linear park and the Brooklands Ridge, a large landscaped earth bund that has been created to separate the development from the noise and view of the M1.

Milton Keynes Council has an information page about the growth area – see Eastern Expansion Area.

Further expansion of the city is planned for the area south of the Eastern Expansion Area between the A421 and Wavendon in a planned development area referred to by Milton Keynes in the local development plan as the ‘Strategic Land Allocation’. This will have a projected 3,000 homes and will include some local parks and play areas and a landscaped buffer between the housing area and the A421. For more information about this area see this page on Milton Keynes Council’s website – Strategic Land Allocation.
