Lifecycles for Little Ones: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Lifecycles for Little Ones is an interactive 1-hour session based on the popular book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Walking the children through the story they will learn about what foods caterpillars eat, enjoy a scavenger hunt for 'caterpillar food', re-enact the butterfly lifecycle, go on a bug hunting adventure, and match other baby and adult animals.

How does this session link to the National Curriculum? (EYFS)

  • Be able to enjoy listening and using spoken language and rhyme
  • To begin to understand about different animals and their environments – identifying similarities and differences
  • To participate in recreating part of the story through physical movement
  • Gain an understanding of lifecycles
