Hear, Here!
Public Art Matters and Dallas-Pierce-Quintero (2026)
Visit Hazeley Wood to enjoy the sounds of nature! ‘Hear, Here’ is a public art piece designed to encourage people to stop, listen and be enchanted. Giant sound cones are aimed at the tree canopy to intensify the sounds of bird calls. How many birds will you be able to hear?
Nearby stands a novel way to help you identify the birds – a tall pole mounted with disks showing the birds' silhouettes and the sounds they make. This will help you make sense of what you hear. Local children from Whitehouse Primary School worked with the artist to create the silhouettes and sound out the bird calls phonetically. At the top of the poll is a bird box to provide shelter for nesting or over-wintering birds.
Juliet Quintero from Public Art Matters said: “This piece is designed to encourage us to take a moment to stop and engage with our environment to recognise the many living creatures that co-exist with us.”
The cones are made of steel, chosen for its robustness and sound-reflecting qualities. The colours were selected to reflect the changing seasons of the leaves on site.
The project is part of the 106 funding for public art that comes with housing development in the local area.
The art piece is located a short walk away from the car park off Dansteed Way. What3Words location: question.abolish.instincts
