Nordic Walking

Discover Nordic Walking across Milton Keynes parks and turn your sociable walks into a full-body workout!

As part of our Health Walk programme we're delighted to offer regular free Nordic Walking activities across MK.

Suitable for all people Nordic Walking is a great way to get outside and enjoy your local green spaces and achieve your daily or weekly exercise!

What is Nordic Walking?

The sport was originally developed by Cross Country skiers as a summer training routine.

Nordic Walking is a specific pole walking technique that harnesses the power of the upper body. With the assistance of light, shock adsorbing poles, Nordic Walking greatly increases the cardiovascular output of normal walking and exercise, whilst the poles provide stability, support and relief on the load bearing areas of your body, namely your ankles, knees, hips and back.

Physical benefits include:

  • Tones the upper and lower body at the same time
  • Reduces the pressure on knees and joints
  • Great for the heart and lungs
  • Ideal for neck, shoulder and back problems

Do I need to be fully fit to take part?

NO - Nordic Walking is suitable for all ages and physical fitness levels. In fact, Nordic Walking is an excellent way to improve mobility and greatly helps with recuperation from injury, as well as being an aid for people with reduced mobility.

Our participants cover all age groups, and our walks have specifically experienced and trained walk leaders that will work with you at a pace that will suit you.

How do I take part?

Our volunteer led walks are normally about an hour long.

Once completed you are free to attend either of our Nordic Walking groups.
