Things to do in Milton Keynes: parks, art & nature

Published: 30/04/2026

Milton Keynes offers countless opportunities to slow down, explore and feel connected to nature. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or rediscovering familiar places, the city’s parks are a great way to LoveMK through parks, lakes, woodlands and public artworks.

As the charity caring for Milton Keynes’ parks and outdoor spaces, here’s some of our favourite things to see and do…

The image shows a group of sculptures resembling cows placed outdoors. These cow sculptures are painted black and white to mimic the appearance of real cows. They are arranged on a mulch-covered path in a grassy, park-like area surrounded by trees. The sculptures seem to be made of a solid material, possibly concrete or similar, giving them a sturdy, permanent presence in the landscape.

Mooch by the Concrete Cows

A visit to Milton Keynes wouldn’t be complete without meeting the city’s most famous residents, the Concrete Cows. This much-loved artwork has become a symbol of the city’s creativity and character. Take a gentle stroll nearby and embrace a moment of curiosity and fun.

It’s a great reminder that Milton Keynes’ parks are places where art, nature and people come together.

Amble through an ancient woodland

It may be a modern city but Milton Keynes is home to ancient woodlands, shaped by centuries of natural growth and careful management. Mature trees and winding paths offer a sense of continuity between the past and present. Rich in wildlife and with beautiful seasonal changes, it's well worth revisiting throughout the year.

Take in the glorious green

Residing in the heart of Milton Keynes, this Grade II listed landscape connects the city centre to the linear park network. As well as public art, visitors can discover water features, the Grand Union Canal, a cricket pitch and an amphitheatre.

From the higher ground at the Light Pyramid in Campbell Park, you can look out across Milton Keynes and beyond. Take a moment to appreciate how green space is at the heart of the city’s design.

Listen to the birdsong

Sometimes the best way to experience a park is simply to stop. Hear, Here! invites visitors to pause and listen to the local birdsong, helping us tune in to the natural soundscape that surrounds us every day.

Take a moment, linger for a while, and notice how moments of calm can be found even in a busy city.

Watch wildlife

The city's linear parks create an almost continuous network of green spaces and habitats that are home to an abundance of wildlife!

From interesting insects to beautiful birds and mischievous mammals - what will you spot when you wander along a winding river valley, step into a bird hide or visit a nature reserve.

Woughton Community Orchard has served Milton Keynes' residents for 50 years - celebrating a fruitful golden jubilee in 2026!

A wonderful example of how green spaces can support wellbeing, learning and community involvement. Orchards like this one are living landscapes, shaped by volunteers and visitors who care for them.

At Great Linford Manor Park, the alphabet trail offers a playful way to explore the landscape. It’s enjoyed by families, children and anyone who likes discovering small details along the way. The trail encourages curiosity and gentle exploration, helping visitors notice features they might otherwise miss.

One of the best tips for visiting Milton Keynes is to take it slowly. Our parks are designed for everyday enjoyment – places to walk, listen, notice and return to. No two visits are ever the same, and each season brings something new to discover.

Whether you’re here for an afternoon or a lifetime, Milton Keynes’ parks are always ready to welcome you.

If your visit coincides with LoveMK Day on 30th April, post about your visit on social media using #LoveMK to share your day or favourite spot in Milton Keynes’ parks.
