Nature for everyone at Shenley Wood

Accessibility improvements

Watch the video with Ellie, our Landscape Development Officer, to hear about the changes that we've made to help make the ancient woodland more accessible for all ages and abilities.

Working with our Access Ambassadors, we've made various improvements and additions to help make the woodland more accessible. These include:

  • a new ramp from the accessible parking
  • refreshed maps that show accessible routes and gradients
  • more benches to take a rest
  • improved drainage to help prevent footpaths flooding in winter

New trails to explore

Accessible Sound Trail

The Accessible Sound Trail follows surfaced footpaths and invites people to scan QR codes to unlock stories and sounds from the woodland, with purple rubbing discs along the route for young explorers. We've created a Sound Trail Challenge Booklet to help families make the most of their visit.

Route distance: 0.7km

Woodland Edge Trail

For those looking for a longer walk, the Woodland Edge Trail follows the perimeter of the wood using surfaced footpaths and cycle paths, with changing views including wildlife-rich ponds that support local drainage.
