Volunteers' Week Celebrations 2023
Celebrating our wonderful volunteers!
To celebrate Volunteers' Week, we are celebrating our volunteers' remarkable achievements and unwavering commitment. With a diverse range of roles and an ever-expanding community engagement programme, our volunteers have made a significant impact.
With over 225 registered volunteers, we have witnessed the extraordinary power of collective effort. Each volunteer brings unique skills, knowledge, and passion to their role, enabling the us to undertake a wide range of activities that benefit the parks and wider community.
The Parks Trust’s main volunteering programme encompasses 12 distinct roles that cater to different interests and skill sets. Volunteer rangers and wardens play a vital role in ensuring the maintenance and safety of the parks, while wildlife surveyors contribute valuable data for conservation efforts. Outdoor learning and events volunteers engage with the community through educational sessions, events and recreation, while the practical conservation team undertakes crucial tasks to preserve the natural beauty of our parks.
Last year, our volunteers generously contributed over 10,000 hours of time, leaving a lasting imprint across the city, from enhancing wildlife habitats to organising memorable events. Some highlights from the past year are:
- Practicing traditional skills such as hedge-laying and building drystone walls to bring the heritage of Great Linford Manor Park to life.
- Completing over 6,600 patrol hours to help keep our parks clear of litter and provide a friendly face in the spaces.
- Creating habitats for reptiles and amphibians and planting wildflowers for pollinators.
- Helping to host over 3,000 events and activities from community events like Apple Day and the Queen's Jubilee to guided walks and running groups.
You too can get involved with The Parks Trust by joining our main volunteering programme. In addition to this, we offer opportunities for community involvement through Community Volunteering Tasks. These tasks provide a platform for individuals to give back, contribute to environmental initiatives, and connect with like-minded individuals without committing to a permanent role.
Every month, we also host Community Litter Picks to provide an excellent opportunity for families and individuals to contribute towards a cleaner and more beautiful environment. By actively participating in these litter picks, volunteers will be able to help combat litter and instil a sense of pride across Milton Keynes' parks.
Like most charities, The Parks Trust are governed by a Board of Trustees who are all volunteers. We are currently looking to recruit new Trustees to join our Board. Apply to be a Trustee.
