Herbicide Usage

The Parks Trust continues to make progress in its efforts to reduce the use of herbicides such as glyphosate. Herbicides are applied in a targeted way by trained operators and only where there are no practical alternatives.

Where weed control is required, we first look for opportunities to reduce weed growth through good landscape management, including wood mulch, appropriate planting, wildflower establishment and hand or mechanical weeding.

We will continue to work with contractors and industry experts to assess alternatives to herbicides, adopting non-chemical methods where suitable and effective. Where glyphosate is used, it will be as part of our integrated weed management approach that supports public access and long-term landscape management. Glyphosate is currently fully licenced for horticultural and agricultural use in both the UK and EU. The UK licence for the use of glyphosate was extended to December 2026.
