Milton Keynes schools invited to bring learning to life outdoors

Published: 10/09/2026

Did you know that as well as caring for the city's parks, The Parks Trust provides a wide range of nature-themed education for local schools? Primary and Secondary schools in Milton Keynes can benefit from a host of activities from assemblies, workshops, and youth programmes to subsidised curriculum-based sessions in and out of the classroom.

Outdoor Learning sessions with The Parks Trust are primarily held in local parks, and cover topics such as Environmental Heroes, Life of Plants, Wild Wellbeing, and River Explorers. Bookings for 2026-27 academic year are still open, including the Junior Park Rangers programme!

Junior Park Rangers (JPR) is a wonderful way for schools to encourage children (Years 4-6) to love nature, look after their local green spaces and spread the word about enjoying the great outdoors! As a pre-packaged ‘club’ with lots of activities and resources provided by the Trust, the JPR programme is simple to deliver and it’s completely FREE for Milton Keynes schools and children. Check out this JPR video to see what the programme is all about.

Around 17,000 local students engaged with nature-themed learning in the last school year, with over 5,000 enjoying sessions in their local parks being environmental heroes, exploring the Roman villa at Bancroft, taking part in river experiments, tree planting, pond dipping, and much more. The Parks Trust team also attended school assemblies, speaking to more than 10,000 students about important issues including water safety. There have also been three schools awarded with The Parks Trust Secondary Schools award to recognise students' efforts to care for the environment and improve biodiversity in Milton Keynes.

If you’re a teacher, governor or parent in the Milton Keynes area you can find out about The Parks Trust’s educational opportunities at theparkstrust.com/outdoorlearning.
