                JOB DESCRIPTION

    POSITION

    LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE TRAINEE (Level 1)

    This is an 18-month level 1 training programme. Subject to training and practical criteria being met there is potential for the role to become permanent with further training opportunities

    REMUNERATION

    £17,000 per annum (full time 37½ hrs per week)

    KEY

    OBJECTIVES

    Ensure the green estate is maintained and presented to a good standard.

    Support the Supervisor and other Direct Works team members in ensuring the team is working efficiently and effectively and that all operations are carried out in a safe manner.  

    Undertake a training programme that involves both practical and academic qualifications.  Show good team-working skills, while being able to work under own initiative.

    DUTIES

    Undertake required site maintenance work (e.g. weed control, shrub pruning, coppicing, hedge cutting, grass cutting) to the specifications of LM instruction documentation, while using your own initiative to complete the required works.

    Carry out general site (both soft and hard works) and tree works as instructed, while working efficiently as part of a team and/or on own initiative as required.

    Assist the team to identify and carry out works as required.

    Help ensure all machinery is properly maintained and in good working order. Work with the appropriate line manager to ensure any machinery associated problems are efficiently rectified.

    Help ensure the team follows the correct working hours pattern, including prompt arrivals to and from site.

    Assist in Health and Safety matters on site while ensuring all statutory Health and Safety requirements are fulfilled.

    Assist other team members in carrying out Risk Assessments and help implement measures on site. 

    Assist with keeping the parks tidy and presentable; carry out litter picking, minor graffiti removal and other duties as reasonably required.

    Liaise with the Supervisor, Landscape Officers and other team members on issues associated with the management of the green estate.

    Help ensure machinery and equipment is maintained, used correctly and safely.

    As part of a call-out system, respond to incidents, alarms and emergencies regarding The Trust’s holdings as required.

    As part of a voluntary (paid) based rota system primarily involving weekends and evenings, carry out patrolling and checking of ‘hot-spot’ locations with the Community Rangers.

    In consultation with the Supervisor and Landscape Officers, undertake further training.

    Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.

    Essential

    Be prepared and motivated to take on further training that will help enhance your individual skill levels, allowing you and The Trust to develop your depth of skills and experience.

    In consultation with the appropriate Manager, some weekend work will be required.

    Be able to communicate effectively with team members, other Trust staff, the general public and third parties.

    Desired

    A full driving license
