    POSITION

    Landscape and Forestry Officer

    REPORTING TO

    Area Landscape Manager

    LOCATION

    Campbell Park Pavilion

     

    KEY

    OBJECTIVES

     

    While supporting the Area Managers and other Parks Trust staff, ensure that the Trust’s green estate is well managed and maintained, conforms to the Trust’s standards and are clean and safe.

    Ensure hard and soft landscape works are carried out efficiently and effectively to the required standards and that any materials, equipment and labour needed are available at the right time.

    Assist in the development of the Parks Trusts trees and general landscape.

     

    DUTIES

    Carry out regular inspections of the Trust’s green estate including safety and visual inspections of various fixtures and fittings therein. Record inspections and initiate appropriate action where defects are found.

    Carry out regular inspections of contract work in progress and ensure they are executed in accordance with the contract conditions and specifications and make recommendations regarding payments to third parties.

    Ensure all appropriate Health & Safety measures are in place.  Advise and instruct the contactors and the Direct Work Teams accordingly.

    As required organise and oversee Direct Works Teams working on site.

    Undertake re-specification of contract areas.

    Identify maintenance issues and additional hard and soft work required (or work which would enhance site development).

    Continue to assess plantations, woodlands and the landscape in general and make recommendations for improvements and re-modelling as required.

    Measure, specify, and produce costings and plans for landscape works. Maintain records of sites visited, jobs in progress and contractors working on site

    Issue plants and materials required to contractors and carry out site checks to ensure that plants and materials are properly utilised and accounted for.

    Initiate works purchase orders for authorised contract work and Direct Work Teams; authenticate invoices, timesheets, mileage claims etc.

    Carry our formalised tree inspections, ensuring all inspections are carried out at the appropriate times and correctly recorded.

    Work with and support the Community Rangers as required; offering site information in dealing with situations on site (e.g. attendance at swimming or motorbike incidents), information gathering and recording.

    Record any variations between site plans and site detail and between contract specification and site requirements, reporting these to the Area Landscape Manager for resolution.

    Liaise and monitor utility companies and any third parties undertaking works on Parks Trust land.

    Maintain a professional command and awareness of new technology, legislation and recent research, applying these, when agreed, to achieve better contract management.

    Liaise with members of the public and deal with day to day complaints and enquiries explaining Trust policies and procedures as necessary, ensuring the Trust’s image and reputation remains positive.

    Monitor specific areas of Trust land and deal with issues such as boundary encroachment, garden debris, litter and other abuses, liaising regularly with the Area Landscape Manager.

    Hold appropriate licenses and certification to allow the post holder to

    carry out managerial and supervisory functions.

    Assist with management of Parks Trust landscape buildings and depots ensuring they are maintained effectively, used appropriately and conform with health and safety issues.

    As part of a call-out system, respond to out of hours alarms/emergencies regarding Parks Trust premises as required.

    As required assist the Outdoor learning and Events team with aspects of their work, including event set up and leading on walks and talks.

    Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.

     

    EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

     

     

    Essential

    Relevant professional qualification in landscaping, horticulture, forestry and/or experience within the industry

    A full, valid driving licence

    A good knowledge and keen interest in the natural environment

    Knowledge of landscape management practices and techniques

    IT literate

    Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

    Desirable

    Level 3 (or higher) Diploma in landscaping, horticulture or forestry
