Family Heritage Open Day

Sunday 9th September 12 – 4pm

Come along to Great Linford Manor Park and take part in our fantastic family themed Heritage Open Day event. The Parks Trust have been working with St Andrews Church’ and the Friends of Great Linford Manor Park volunteer group to help set up this event.

This family-oriented Heritage Open Day will give you a chance to explore the fascinating heritage stories behind Milton Keynes hidden gem - Great Linford Manor Park and St Andrew’s Church. There will be the serious history with the dates and facts you need to understand the Manor and Church. But there will also be Horrible Heritage aplenty: the quirky things, the slightly shocking things, the surprising things, the scandalous things that bring the Manor’s heritage to life. You will have the chance to discover: how the village of Great Linford got its name, how the Grand Junction Canal Company trashed the Manor’s gardens, how the Church’s rector was also a famous doctor who used astrology to treat his patients, that some of the Manor’s windows are not quite what they seem, that a WWII bomb blew out the Church’s windows, and where the village school master lived.

Activities include

  • Family themed Horrible Heritage Trail
  • Live music
  • Kids games & Activities
  • Draw the Manor House competition [with prizes]

Food will be available to purchase on the day or bring a picnic along and enjoy the live music!

Great Linford Manor Park is a special, heritage-rich park set within the old village of Great Linford. It contains features that were first laid out centuries ago, including ponds and a Wilderness Garden which represent the English Landscape style of garden design that became popular for country estates during the 18th Century.
